Light at the End of the Tunnel
Mount Pleasant Habitat for Humanity is working diligently to move this hard working family into their new home before Christmas. Saturday, November 24th, was a workday. We painted and fitted the baseboards. Nishia Miller painted outside trim. The appliances are in. We are currently waiting for doors and frames to arrive, and for the plumbers to finish their work.
We are all excited. George Standford, Paul Chapman, and Tom Nuchols will be most pleased to see their work completed. Everyone is looking forward to the reception. Stay tuned.
Seeing The Light at the End of the Tunnel
Mount Pleasant Habitat for Humanity is closing in on finishing our 26th house. The light fixtures are up. The flooring is down. Almost all the cabinets are in. The range is in place. Bathrooms are almost complete.
The baseboards and door trim will have to be painted outside then installed and touched up, carefully. If you can paint and would like to be a part of helping this family move into their very own home, call Jualette Farmer and let her know. We will need a nice day and lots of help to make this work. Mt. Pleasant Brush of Kindness
Mt. Pleasant Habitat for Humanity’s Brush of Kindness project is scheduled for June 23 beginning at 8:00 am. Address is 917 8th Street.
Since there will not be any construction, there will be no age restrictions. All volunteers are welcome. We will be painting the house. All paint, tools and supplies will be furnished as well as water & Gatorade.
Come out and join us in sprucing up a home in our community.
2018 REPORT ON WOMENS BUILD
At 8:00 am Saturday morning people began gathering at 908 East 9th Street to paint, calk, laugh, and in general have a great time.
Rev. Channon from our local Episcopal Church gave an inspiring talk on empowering women, and serving our Lord when we care for the hungry, the ill, and those needing shelter. There were a lot of women, men and young people from Mt. Pleasant and Pittsburg serving the Lord at our Habitat Women’s Build today. Mount Pleasant Habitat for Humanity thanks each and every one. A special thanks to LOWES for all their support in materials and workers. GO LOWES!

Work for the Day is Coming

Work for the day is coming when our Habitat House will be done! George Sanford, Tom Nuchols, Mr. and Mrs. Miller, and some of their friends worked Saturday morning putting up sheet rock, and mudding cracks. This house will have to pass a new, government required, door pressure test. Every smidgen of a place that might be an air leak must be filled with mud.
There are still areas in closets that need sheet rock. Taping, bedding, and painting are all jobs that will need volunteers in the coming weeks. The 2018 women’s build will be May 5th. Ladies, mark your calendar, grab a friend and join our mission of providing affordable housing for a working family.
Great Work Day
Saturday morning a group of super nice folk showed up to work on out current Habitat house. Calking around window frames, insulation, wiring and general cleanup were some of the jobs worked on.
Dayna Brownlee, one of our Mt. Pleasant Board members, was there and I got a chance to ask her a few questions.

Why are you a part of Habitat? Dayna – I enjoy giving to the community, giving back.
What is your favorite on site job? Dayna – Painting, where I know what I’m doing. I work more to the end of the project.
Dayna has served on the Mt. Pleasant Habitat Board for three years. She is our Compliance person making sure our Habitat moneys are distributed properly. She helps keep us in compliance with Habitat International.

There are many ways to serve in the Habitat organization, not all on the construction site itself. We need volunteers to serve on various committees, volunteers to prepare simple lunches for the workers on workdays, volunteers to oversee registration of workers on workdays, donations of money or materials that can be used or sold.

Working Together
Mount Pleasant Habitat for Humanity is charging ahead with work on our latest house on East 9th Street. Saturday morning, November 25th, volunteers gathered and began cutting and installing sheets of insulation foam. Some fencing and wiring projects were also being worked on. The weather was perfect for indoor and outdoor work.
Atlas Shingles Have Arrived
Ronnie White and Tom Nuchols pulled a trailer to Daingerfield and collected a trailer load of Atlas Shingle donated for our current Habitat home. Our heart felt thanks to Atlas Shingles of Daingerfield. The men experienced a little delay along the way, however. Between Mt. Pleasant and a mile out of Daingerfield Tom saw something fly off a trailer tire. A flat! Ronnie had to drive on into Daingerfield and buy a new tire.
On track again, the two men arrived at the plant to pick up our super gift of roof shingles. They were told we were getting a color of shingle that is brand new and won’t be released until 2018. Wheeeee! I’m anxious to see this new color.
The Atlas crew loaded the shingles and our guys brought them home without further incident.
Great Work Day
Today, September 2, 2017, was a great work day for Mt. Pleasant Habitat. We had a big, hard working crew and accomplished a lot. Just study the pictures. Great job people.
We are grateful to Atlas Roofing in Daingerfield for their donation of shingles for the roof and to John McDermitt and his roofing crew who will be putting them on, hopefully next week.We will soon be ready for the plumbers, the electrification, and then the fun part of installing insulation.
